2009 Stan Musial World Series
                              Tournament Rules*

(2010 Version Coming Soon)

This tournament will be conducted strictly in accordance with Official American League Baseball Rules as supplemented or amended by the AABC handbook. Such variances include:

  • Pitcher Re-entry: The pitcher may be removed as a pitcher to play another position, and may return as a pitcher if he was not removed because of trips to the mound.
  • Uniforms: Players, managers and coaches (first and/or third) must be in uniform. Shorts may not be worn.
  • Home Team: The home team will be determined by the flip of a coin as early as possible.
  • Dugouts: The home team for each particular game will occupy the home dugout. First base dugout at SHSU; third base dugout at Ross Park.
  • Pre-game Warm-ups: Infield practice and other pre-game warm-ups will be permitted prior to a team's first appearance on that field.
  • Byes: Tournament byes will follow the true double elimination format as prescribed in the AABC Official Handbook. Note: A forfeit is treated as a win and not as a bye.
  • Game Length: All games will be nine-inning games.
  • Mercy Rule: “Eight after Five”, even in games where the championship might be decided (new for 2009.) Rule 203: (A game) “shall be legally completed after five (5) innings if the visiting team is ahead by at least eight (8) runs and after four and one-half (4 ½) innings if the home team is ahead by at least eight (8) runs.”
  • Sliding: Any runner is out when the runner does not slide legally or attempt to avoid a fielder who has possession of the ball and (is) waiting to make a tag or is in the process of fielding the ball. The ball is dead and NO runners shall advance. If the runner’s slide or collision is flagrant, the runner shall be ejected from the contest.
  • Game Completion: A game is legally completed after five innings if the visiting team is ahead and after four and one half innings if the home team is ahead.
  • Game Suspension: Any game not legally completed because of inclement weather or other unforeseen developments shall be a suspended game and shall be resumed from the point of suspension.

  • Equipment: Helmets with double ear flaps shall be worn while batting and running the bases. There shall be no exceptions. The use of protective headgear (hardhat) and a throat protector while catching is required and mandatory. Coaches on the playing field are required to wear protective headgear while coaching at first or third base. Coaches must wear a helmet - it may be a single-flap, a double-flap, or a no-flap style helmet. Failure to do so will result in ejection from the game.
